Meet Yaroslav.
He’s been a School Bus Driver with 4Seasons Transportation for nearly a year. Yaroslav, originally from Ukraine with a background in applied mathematics and IT, has spent 15 years teaching skiing and solving real-world problems through AI and software development. When he discovered an opportunity to drive students with disabilities, it felt like a perfect fit. Now, as part of the 4Seasons team, he applies his adaptability and problem-solving skills to the road, ensuring students get to school safely every day.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m originally from Ukraine, with a background in applied mathematics—and I’ve always loved finding ways to 'apply math' in real life. Whether solving IT challenges, teaching on the slopes, or developing AI tools, I enjoy turning complex problems into practical solutions. Recently, I created software to help drivers absorb knowledge faster and pass official exams on their first try. Over my 15 years as a professional ski and snowboard instructor, I’ve taught students from over 30 countries and learned how to adapt to all kinds of needs. Turns out, math again —especially when combined with physics—comes in handy on and off the slopes! These experiences have taught me creativity, adaptability, and the joy of helping others succeed—whether on the road, the slopes, or anywhere in between!
Tell us about your role as a School Bus Driver.
Being a TCS isn’t just about driving—it’s about being a connection between families and the school world. My role gives me the chance to make a real difference in the lives of kids and their families. I strive to create a supportive and enjoyable environment on the bus, where kids feel safe, happy, and ready to start their day. Whether it’s a kind word,a cheerful atmosphere, or simply being a steady, reliable presence, I know these little moments can have a big impact on their motivation, adaptability, and overall success. It’s incredibly rewarding to know I can help make their school journey a positive part of their day.
What does a day in the life of a School Bus Driver look like?
This esteemed chronicler of the school bus domain begins his day not merely as a driver, but as a gentleman of camaraderie and discourse. As the morning sun kisses the Rockies, I embark on a noble mission to visit my dear compatriots—the parents of my young companions. With grace and tact, I exchange pleasantries, ensuring their trust in my most dignified of roles.
Upon the grand arrival of my ‘friends’ (known to the world as my passengers), the bus transforms into a lively salon of ideas and debate. Here, the weightiest topics of the day are discussed with vigor. Who would triumph in a battle of virtues: the nimble Spider-Man or the stalwart Superman? And what of dinosaurs—who among them truly reigns supreme? (Tyrannosaurus Rex is, naturally, a perennial favourite.)
In this rolling academy of life, I guide my young scholars not only to their destination but also in their preparation for the monumental tasks ahead—be it multiplication tables, spelling bees, or simply the courage to face a new day. The journey itself is a treasure, enriched by laughter, curiosity, and the occasional song.
As the day draws to a close, the majestic Rockies gift me with a sunset of ever-changing hues, a masterpiece unlike any other. Each evening, as I reflect upon the colourful tapestry of my day, I am struck by one singular thought: life, like the sunset, is utterly magnificent in its variety and brilliance.
And so, with great pride and contentment, I declare this: a day as a school bus driver is not merely a job—it is a life well-lived.
