Meet Zayden.
Zayden is a 12-year-old boy with an incredible spirit that can light up any room with his smile. He is smart, mischievous, and full of life. Zayden lives with Dravet Syndrome—a severe and medication-resistant form of epilepsy—but doesn’t let his condition slow him down. His determination shines through as he continually finds new ways to communicate and engage with those around him, making every day an adventure. This year has been particularly special for Zayden. For the first time, he’s riding the school bus without his wheelchair, and it has quickly become his favourite part of the day.
"The light-up smile on his face every morning and every afternoon when he comes back from school tells you how much he loves being able to sit in a seat like a Big Kid" - his mom says.
Last year, things looked a bit different on the bus. Zayden required additional support in his wheelchair and often showed his desire for independence by attempting to move out of it. Today, he confidently walks on and off the bus, showcasing his incredible growth and determination. Now, Zayden’s bus rides are filled with joy and new experiences.
"Zayden loves watching out the window on the bus,” his mom shares. “He knows the routes to and from school so well that he gets upset if there’s a deviation.”
His sharp memory and attention to detail make each ride unique. Zayden also enjoys taking off his boots and wearing multiple hats during the ride—a simple ritual that reflects the comfort and sense of belonging he feels. He also enjoys using his communication device to chat with the bus driver, attendant, and his nurse, adding to the sense of connection and community. The impact of riding the bus without his wheelchair has been profound.
“4Seasons has given Zayden a large piece of independence,” his mom says. “He feels included being able to walk on and off the bus.”
This newfound freedom has filled him with happiness and pride. “You have given him a reason to smile and be excited to go to school. You have given him so many new opportunities, and we can never thank you enough for those,” his mom shares.
Zayden’s story is a powerful testament to how even small changes can make a world of difference. His resilience and joy inspire everyone around him, and the support from 4Seasons has been a vital part of making these moments possible. For Zayden, riding the bus is more than just a means of transportation—it’s a gateway to independence, confidence, and pure, unfiltered joy.
